In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
— Romans 12:4

Why should I become a church member?

Membership identifies us as a genuine believer (Ephesians 2:19, 1 John 3:1).  As believers we are members of God’s household, a chosen people belonging to God, His precious children, not intended to go it alone, but to be built up together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.

Membership provides us with a spiritual family that supports and encourages us in our walk with Christ (Galatians 6: 1-2, Hebrews 10: 24-25). When we are born again, God gives us a spiritual family to walk beside us, encouraging us to grow to be like Him.

Membership offers us a place to discover and use our God-given gifts  (1 Corinthians 12:4-27).  God gives to every believer spiritual gifts to serve his family.  Serving together, these gifts are honed and perfected.  Sharing in the family’s responsibilities is a blessing to both those served and to those serving.

Membership places us under the spiritual protection of godly leaders (Hebrew 13:17, Acts 20: 28-29).  A spiritual leader is a shepherd who goes before and leads the way.

Membership gives us the accountability we need to grow (Ephesians 5:21). Submitting to one another comes out of the heart of seeking God’s will.

What’s the membership process?

DEC holds membership seminars several times a year. Please check our events page for the next seminar date. If you do not see one, please check back as it will be posted in the next couple of months. These seminar classes run about 90 minutes. Childcare will be available for the the Sunday seminar. Please indicate whether you need childcare when you register. If you have specific questions about church membership, please contact Pastor Joe Cheslock at joe.cheslock@durhame.org.

Or if you think DEC may be God’s church home for you, fill out a Communication Card or email contact@durhame.org.  We will contact you to invite you to the next Membership Seminar where you can learn much more about what we believe and how we live it out together as God’s family.

What’s expected of members?

Like any family, DEC members recognize they have a part to play.  It is our hope every member will find their place in the family and experience the joys and challenges of worshiping, growing, and serving together in a way that glorifies our Heavenly Father.
