Haiti Earthquake

January 19th, 2010 by dec News

Dear DEC Family-

In light of the recent disaster in Haiti we are aware that many of you are wondering where you can donate time and money to the relief efforts.  First of all we praise God for the compassionate hearts of his people here at DEC. While the natural response to something like this is to react quickly, we are asking you to be patient and bear with us. The two ministries that DEC currently partners with in Haiti are Heartline Ministries and Partners in Development.  We continue to get reports sporadically about the condition of their property and people.

We have the utmost confidence and trust in the wisdom and integrity of the leadership of both ministries.  We want to wait to allow them to assess the needs on the ground so we can respond appropriately.  We have enough experience with these ministries to believe that they will stretch all the resources they receive to benefit the people of Haiti to the greatest extent possible.

Please continue to pray with us for God’s mercy to rest on the people of Haiti.  Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti to be strong in this dark time.  Pray that through them God’s love and peace would shine.

We thank God that in a time like this we have a mighty rock to stand upon, a God who is above all things and whose desire is to love us.  We will update you as more information comes to us. We thank you for you patience and understanding.  We will post updates as soon as possible.

If you would like to contribute to Heartline or PID, please go to durhame.org/onlinegiving.  Once there, simply fill in the amount box labeled Haiti Relief.  (Donation Amount goes to the church.)  All monies collected for Haiti Relief will go directly to the ministries as they need them.  If you would like to be part of a relief team (RT), please e-mail contact@durhame.org with the following info:  Name, phone number, email, skills and disciplines and any questions.
